The public is invited to taste “Candy Land” during Lamar County museums’ annual “Christmas at the Museums” celebration. Festivities will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Heritage Park (1200 Bonham Street) and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Roxton. Participating museums in Paris are the Lamar County Historical Museum, the Valley of the Caddo Museum and Cultural Center, the Lamar County Genealogical Library, the Sam Bell Maxey House, and the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial Museum. Museums in Roxton are the City Drug Store Museum and the Chaparral Rails to Trails Museum.
In addition to tours of the museums, Glee Emmite’s annual Paris Historic Landmark Christmas ornament (Scott Building) will be available as will local history books by Marvin Gorley and Skipper Steely. Light refreshments and wassail will be served in conjunction with the Paris Wassail Fest in downtown Paris. Participating visitors will be eligible for a chance to win $100 Downtown Dollars.
Following “Christmas at the Museums,” dedication of a Texas Historical Marker for the Paris Community Theatre will be made at the downtown Plaza Theatre at 4:30 p.m. In addition, the Lamar County Historical Commission’s 2024 History Maker of the Year Award will be presented at that time. The Lamar County Historical Commission and the Lamar County Commissioners Court have named the Texas Highway 24 Expansion Project the recipient of the 2024 Lamar County History Maker of the Year Award. A three-member sub-committee of the Lamar County Historical Commission selected the winner from nominees submitted by LCHC and Lamar County Commissioners Court members over the last month. Everyone is invited to attend and honor these momentous programs which have done so much to serve Paris and Lamar County.
