Our Museums
Sam Bell Maxey was a veteran of the Mexican-American War, former Confederate general, and future U.S. Senator when his family moved into their fashionable, newly built home on the south side of Paris in 1868. In this home, the Maxey family navigated the political and social landscape from Reconstruction Era Texas through the start of the First World War. The home’s newly restored interiors showcase original family furnishings, clothing, and letters. These give insight into the lives of the three generations of the family that bore witness to Reconstruction’s challenging legacy.

Varied collections are housed in this 7,000 square foot building in Heritage Park. The foyer houses the 1917 Staples Jewelry neon sign and an extensive collection of Lamar County postcards dating from the early 1900’s.

We invite you to come experience the rich history and culture Lamar, Red River, Delta, and Fannin Counties have to offer. Our sections include Native American, Art, Astronomy, Archeology and Student/Education. Exhibits will be changed every four months to enable greater coverage of the wide range of collections available. School groups and tours are welcome.

1135 Bonham St.
Located at 1135 Bonham St. in the old Santa Fe Depot. The Library was created from donations and volunteer work, the library has been continually growing since 1983. It has over 150 family histories, a large collection of Lamar County history, and books from other counties and states. You are welcome to come in and browse or use one of our computers to access your family history. Open Monday – Thursday 12pm. – 4pm. and 2nd. and 4th. Saturdays 9am. – 4pm. Located in downtown Roxton (just a short drive from Paris) the museum offers visitors a glimpse of the town’s rich history through a collection of artifacts and photographs. Roxton is a trailhead on the Chaparral Rails to Trails, a section of the Northeast Texas Trail, that runs from Farmersville to New Boston.
